A Celebration of Failure

April 3, 2022 at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for this in-person event as part of the Practical Matters Public Humanities Series (PHH-O).

Every year, hundreds of tweets, email blasts and media releases tout UBCO academic achievements, such as teaching awards, publications, grants, and other much deserved honours.

The PHH-O suggests that not enough proverbial ink has been spent, nor toasts lifted, to likewise acknowledge the waves of rejections that encircle academic achievements. In fact, we suggest, failures are academic achievements, or at least central to them. Therefore, we have dedicated a celebration specifically to those things that did NOT go well in the past year (or 10).

We invite you to an afternoon of commiserating over, and celebrating survival of, those things we too often experience alone. Bring your best/worst stories of publication, job search, conference presentation, and grant cycles failures to air out over a tasty snack and delightful libation at Barn Owl Brewing (4629 Lakeshore Road).*

All are welcome to attend: humanities community members are particularly encouraged to join. Please RSVP by April 1.

This event series is supported by the Public Humanities Hub Okanagan, UBC Okanagan.
