Alumni Office Hours with Bill Chung – Senior Product Designer at Shopify

July 29, 2020 at 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

The Morphology of Failure

In this talk, Bill will discuss ways to react when things go sideways in your life, in your studies, or at work. Stories of his own personal failures, some against the backdrop of his time at UBC, will help to illustrate some of these strategies. He’ll end the talk by leaving students with concrete habits they should form to best recover from failure, and hopefully, see failure as the best teacher we’ve always known.

Bill was born and raised in Steveston, BC. Originally an English literature major, he has worked in nearly all avenues of design—from exhibits, to print, to the web and native apps. He is always looking for new ways to test his understanding and assumptions about how people think. Bill currently works as a Senior Product Designer at Shopify, making commerce better for everyone. In his spare time, he takes long walks with his wife and young son in the woods near his home in North Vancouver.
