Beyond Immunity: The Immune System in Metabolic Disease & Exercise Adaptation

October 26 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

About the Presentation

The immune system plays a critical role in far more than fighting infection. Emerging research shows that immune cells are closely linked to metabolism, influencing how the body responds to diet, exercise and chronic disease. In this presentation, Dr. Hashim Islam will explore the growing field of immunometabolism and share new insights into the interactions between immune cells and skeletal muscle in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Islam will also discuss how dietary strategies that target immune cell mitochondria may help regulate inflammation, improve health outcomes and enhance adaptation to exercise. Together, these findings highlight the immune system’s broader role in metabolic health and human performance.
