EMERGE: Black Student Success Coordinator Meet and Greet

February 9, 2023 at 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

What is Emerge?

Emerge is a series of career-focused workshops and sessions intended to support Black students and students of colour while they navigate the job market. The aim is to understand the intricacies of working in the world as a person of colour and provide solutions to unique challenges that may present themselves to people within this community. Join a network of peers and receive targeted guidance how to stand out from the crowd and advocate for yourself and others while job hunting.

Taiwo Penner has joined the Student Experience Office team (UNC 329) as the new Black Student Success Coordinator as part of a 3-year pilot program. Taiwo was born in Lagos, Nigeria, then found herself moving to London, England, and eventually, Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she obtained her Bachelor of Kinesiology and Recreation Management from the University of Manitoba. She will be assisting in programming related to developing a community for Black students at UBCO as well as strategic projects related to the Black student experience. She will be assisting in breaking down barriers for marginalized Black student to maximize their university experience, and positively impact others as they progress at UBCO. You can reach Taiwo Penner via email taiwo.penner@ubc.ca
