Canadian Successes, Challenges and Opportunities in the Sustainable Management of Invasive Plants Using Biological Control

March 30 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science presents this seminar as part of the Department of Biology Seminar Series.

About the Talk

Invasive plant management using living organisms (biological control) has a successful history of more than 70 years in Canada. However, increasing globalization, the continued introduction of non-native species and climate-driven shifts such as extreme weather events are placing new pressures on ecosystems and challenging species interactions, including those relied upon for pest management.

In this seminar, Dr. David Ensing will review the successes of biological control programs in Canada, examine current challenges and explore future opportunities for managing invasive plants. The talk will highlight recent research and underscore the continued importance of biological control as a sustainable and effective tool for land managers in Canada and around the world.
