Department of Biology Seminar Series: Grand Challenges in Restoring Boreal Populations of Threatened Bison

February 23 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

In his upcoming lecture, “Grand Challenges in Restoring Boreal Populations of Threatened Bison,” Dr. Thomas Jung—Adjunct Professor from the University of Alberta and Senior Wildlife Biologist from the Government of the Yukon—will discuss challenges facing the largest mammals in the boreal forest.

Once widespread, boreal bison populations are now small, isolated, and represent the only species missing from an otherwise intact large-mammal fauna in much of northwestern Canada and Alaska.

Dr. Jung will outline the contemporary history of bison restoration in the boreal forests, focusing on their conservation status, key threats, factors limiting recovery, and recent efforts aimed at achieving ecological and cultural restoration.

Coffee and cookies will be served.

Everyone is welcome, and registration is not required.
