December 2, 2025 at 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Equity and Inclusion Office presents the third installment of the EDI Fall Learning Series: Equity in Higher Education. Hosted by Naim Cardinal, Educational Facilitator for Indigenous Programs and Services at UBCO, he will take us on a Deep Dive into the Indian Act.

“The Indian Act is a Canadian federal law that governs in matters pertaining to Indian status, bands, and Indian reserves.” (UBC Indigenous Foundations, 2009)

Please join us for this opportunity to learn more about the Indian Act. Discussion will focus on the Indian Act’s role in the attempted systematic destruction of First Nations peoples, both the contemporarily and historically, in what we know now as Canada. This session is meant to be introductory to start a conversation about our understanding of this piece of Canadian legislation.

This event will be held in person only.  Light snacks and refreshments provided. You are welcome to bring lunch.
