Frames of Thought: Film Screenings and Discussions
February 5 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Frames of Thought is a bimonthly film screening series that opens a space for deep, critical engagement with the theory, practice and history of visual media. This initiative, curated by Kelsey C. Doyle, fosters critical exploration and intellectual dialogue surrounding films and immersive media that have pushed the boundaries of visual language, narrative, and ethics.
Through the series, students and faculty alike will examine how filmmakers and creators grapple with the complexities of representing reality, memory, identity, and cultural survivance, prompting audiences to reflect on media’s role in shaping perceptions of truth and society.
Each screening is followed by a moderated discussion where participants will have an opportunity to dissect the theoretical, ethical and cultural dimensions of each work. This intimate setting is designed to cultivate structured dialogues that encourage participants to go beyond passive viewing, engaging instead with the layered implications of visual storytelling in today’s media landscape. Selected industry guest speakers have been invited to contribute to the conversation.
Additionally, an online component has been added for some of the screenings and will be made available via a secure online platform, allowing participants to view the films remotely before joining live or virtual discussions. For those joining the online component, a link will be provided by contacting: kelseycd@student.ubc.ca
Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments and beverages will be provided.
