Girlhood Through Embodiment
April 1 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join cultural studies student Soha Aftab in their talk about their directed studies for CULT 495: Transnational Queer Girlhood. This event will feature a short talk by Soha about their directed studies research, followed by a screening of the film Joyland and a panel discussion with fellow students Timi Adebayo and Nimrat Dhaliwal about the film and their perspectives and experiences about girlhood.
This event aims to cultivate conversations around mainstream depictions of girlhood in pop culture, and raises questions such as: What is girlhood? Who is excluded from the dominant representations of the girl? What does girlhood mean to queer, transnational girls?
Join us to support student research and learn more about diverse perspectives within cultural studies.
This event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be provided!
