Indigenous Atlas Open House
July 14 at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
An enormous, 25-by-35-foot, Indigenous territorial map of what we now call Canada will be on display in the University Centre Ballroom (UNC 200) on July 14 from 11 to 1 pm for all visitors to view. This event hopes to assist in further learning about the historical contexts and traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples.
The Canadian Geographic Indigenous Peoples of Canada Atlas “re-maps” and “de-maps” (Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, 2023) colonial versions of traditional Indigenous territories to decolonize maps and mapping, providing an opportunity to view the geography of what we call Canada from the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples.
All members of the campus community are welcome and no registration is required.
