Join us on Sunday, May 21st for a beadwork and tufting workshop with Cree and Métis visual artist and educator Michelle Sound. Taking place at Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, this two hour hands on and interactive workshop explores Sounds’ vibrant creative practice and cultural knowledges. This event is a part of the Indigenous Arts Intensive in collaboration with UBC Okanagan Gallery and The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art.

About the Artist:

Michelle Sound is a Cree and Métis artist, educator, and mother who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Simon Fraser University, School for the Contemporary Arts, and a Master of Applied Arts from Emily Carr University Art + Design. Sound’s work explores personal and familial narratives with a consideration of Indigenous artistic processes. Through working with traditional and contemporary materials and practices like drum making, caribou hair tufting, and beadwork, Sound explores maternal labour, identity, and cultural knowledges. Sound is currently an Indigenous Advisor at Douglas College.
