Lecture and Recital: Opera, Translation and Adaptation

Opera Kelowna joins a third-year French translation class to discuss how opera as a complex, multilingual, multi-medium artform requires constant and overlapping acts of translation: from narrative to script and score; from language of origin to language of performance; from paper to the bodies that breathe it into life, and across generational and geographical differences in audience expectation, performance practices and media formats.

Presentation includes discussion, hosted by Briana Wells, Opera Kelowna Managing Director; Q&A, and musical example performed by mezzo soprano Stephanie Tritchew, and Rosemary Thomson, Opera Kelowna Artistic Director.

This event is being offered as part of FREN 357: Translation class, and is open to the public to attend.

This event is organized by the Espaces francophones, the French program, and Opera Kelowna, and is made possible with the support of the Government of Canada and the BC Ministry of Education and Childcare.
