
National Indigenous History Month: Indigenous Atlas Open House—Celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ History in Canada

An enormous, 25-by-35-foot, Indigenous territorial map of what we call Canada will be on display in the Nechako Gathering Room (Nechako 221) on Friday June 20 from 10 am to 1 pm for UBC Okanagan students, faculty and staff to view and further their learning about the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples and relevant historical events.
For National Indigenous History Month, we will be celebrating the history, culture, languages, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
The event will include:
- Slide Show Presentation: Highlighting First Nations, diversity, contributions to Canada, famous people & their home communities, etc.
- Syilx Territorial Map posted & local Nations highlighted on Indigenous Atlas.
- Scavenger Hunt: find the communities and hometowns of well-known Indigenous people throughout history in Canada and enter for a chance to win a door prize.
