Orange Shirt Day Flag Printing Workshop

September 23 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, in collaboration with UBC Okanagan Gallery, is pleased to invite the public to create a series of printed hummingbird flags in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The workshop will be led by Tania Willard, UBC Okanagan Gallery Director and Associate Professor in Visual Arts.

Participants will create linocut prints of hummingbirds to honour the children (little spirits) who never came home and remember the unmarked graves at residential schools across Canada, as we continue to demand justice for Indigenous communities.

This marks the fourth year of the hummingbird flag project, which has been featured at UBC Okanagan and in an exhibition at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. The flags produced this year will be added to the collection of previous years’ flags and installed in a circle at the courtyard on the UBC Okanagan campus.

Following the workshop, the flag installation will start at 6pm, in the Central Courtyard.

This workshop is free and open to students, faculty and the general public. All materials are provided and you do not have to attend the workshop to participate in the installation event.

Please contact fccs.ubco@ubc.ca to register.
