Parler mal: Documentary Theatre production
February 9 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

What’s “proper” French? The version spoken in Paris? Montreal? Brussels? Is there only one correct way to speak? An accent that’s better than all the other accents?
After years of sitting in silence by fear of judgment, performers Bianca Richard and Gabriel Robichaud decided to stand up and free themselves from their linguistic insecurity.
Through a series of deliciously quirky and expertly researched tableaux, Paler mal reveals humorously the prejudices we cultivate around language. By examining what language represents in the construction of our identity and our imaginary, this elegy for a liberation of speech resonates across boundaries to invite us to embrace the diversity of our parler.
Pal mal takes place on Monday, February 9, at 7 pm in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $30, or $20 for UBCO students and members of the Centre culturel francophone de l’Okanagan.
This performance is presented in collaboration between UBC Okanagan’s French program, Espace francophones, and le Centre culturel francophone de l’Okanagan.
Espaces francophones is a joint initiative between the Okanagan School of Education (OSE) and the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (FCCS) and aims to create a sense of community amongst UBCO’s French speakers.
