Past, Present, and Future: A Conversation on Open Access with Leslie Chan

November 4, 2021 at 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join UBC’s Library and the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology for a conversation with Leslie Chan to discuss the history of the open access movement from Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) to today.

Leslie Chan has been at the forefront of the open access movement for the past 20 years. At the time of signing, the BOAI offered a hopeful vision for the future of scholarly communication in which scholars would use the internet to take back the means of academic production and provide free, unrestricted access to scholarly outputs.

In this workshop, which part of the Open Scholarship in Practice series, hear Chan describe what steps we can be taken in the future to work towards the original promise of an equitable, scholar-led communication and research landscape.
