Print the Okanagan: Featuring broke press and Greenboathouse press

March 21 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free
Print the Okanagan

Meet the operators of two independent presses located in the Okanagan. Clare Thiessen of broke press and Jason Dewinetz of Greenboathouse Press will share their passion and artistic process when it comes to running and acting as sole proprietors of their own presses. Each printer will speak to their unique approach to printing and creating books, and will share select works for you to peruse.

There is a lively and diverse writing, printing and bookmaking scene in the Okanagan. UBC Okanagan Library invites UBCO students, faculty, staff and community members to attend this free, open event held within and hosted by Okanagan Special Collections.

Okanagan Special Collections collects publications from independent printers and bookmakers across the Okanagan. This event will showcase the unique regional context of our collections and celebrate the community and creators behind our collections.

This event will take place inside the Okanagan Special Collections reading room, which is located on the bottom floor of the Commons building in COM 004. Limited space is available, and registration is encouraged. For those who cannot attend in person, an online option is also available.

Chapbooks printed by broke press will be for sale at this event. Risograph-printed limited-edition ephemera from tooth brush books, a new not-for-profit literary and fine art press operated by the Department of Creative Studies, will also be for sale.

On-campus parking is available at a reduced rate using a coupon code available for registrants. Contact Archivist and event organizer Alex Liu if you have any questions: alexandra.liu@ubc.ca.
