Rethinking Suicide Care in BC’s Emergency Departments

April 25 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

What happens when someone in crisis walks into an ER?

Join us for an insightful presentation on the preliminary findings from a comprehensive evaluation of suicide risk screening and care across Interior Health’s 31 emergency departments.

This collaborative project—led by Interior Health, UBC Okanagan, and the Canadian Mental Health Association of British Columbia—explores the vital role suicide screening tools play in healthcare settings.

The talk will cover how these tools are currently used in emergency rooms, frontline providers’ perspectives, and the systemic gaps that leave high-risk populations underserved. We’ll also discuss actionable strategies to enhance
care and reduce emergency room closures.
