The Roger Watts Debate Practice Sessions

The countdown to this year’s Roger Watts Debate has begun!

The annual event, which will take place on Wednesday, March 25, provides a public forum for top UBC Okanagan undergraduate students to debate current events and complex topics while sharpening their critical thinking, public speaking and persuasive communication skills.

Students interested in participating in the Roger Watts Debate can hone their debating skills at weekly practice sessions held every Wednesday at 5:30 pm in ART 204 on the following dates:

  • January 28
  • February 4
  • February 11
  • February 18
  • February 25
  • March 4

Registration is not required for the practice sessions; just show up!

Students are also invited to enroll in the qualifying run-offs on Wednesday, March 11 at 5:00 pm in ART 214 by emailing Dr. Renaud-Philippe Garner at renaud-philippe.garner@ubc.ca before March 2 at noon. The winners of the run-offs will advance to the Roger Watts Debate final on March 25 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

The Roger Watts Debate is a partnership of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science and a community advisory committee.
