SCI_ART 2026 Symposium Kelowna: After the Data / Cultural Climate Futures
October 8 at 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

SCI_ART 2026: After the Data/Cultural Climate Futures brings together artists and scientists from Canada and the European Union for a series of symposiums examining some of the most pressing environmental questions of our time.
A series of panel discussions and presentations will be held in the Critical Future Studio/Lab in the Innovation Precinct at UBC Okanagan. Moving between environmental sensing, fieldwork, biological systems, documentary practice, immersive environments, computation, and scientific imaging, the day asks how artists observe changing worlds and how the methods and instruments they use shape what can become perceptible and knowable.
Coffee and lunch are provided. Participants are welcome to join for a single session or the whole day.
SCI_ART: Art, Science and Technology Symposium will be held at UBC Okanagan on October 7 and 8. This two-day symposium is a gathering of international artists who will discuss the state of art, science and technology in today’s ever-changing world, and is presented by the Austrian Embassy Ottawa, the EU Delegation to Canada, UBC Okanagan’s Critical Future Studio/Lab, with support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
The Delegation of the European Union to Canada is the official diplomatic representation of the European Union in Canada. As the EU’s primary presence in the country, it works to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between the European Union and Canada. The Delegation facilitates dialogue on shared priorities, including trade, climate action, security, and innovation through the implementation of the EU-Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Its team promotes EU policies and interests, fosters people-to-people connections, and supports collaboration in research, education, and cultural exchanges. The Delegation serves as a vital link between Canadian stakeholders and EU institutions, while also providing information services to the public on EU developments and initiatives.
