Speaker Series: From Rabia to Fatima: A History of Female Education in Afghanistan

The Department of History and Sociology invites the public to attend From Rabia to Fatima: A History of Female Education in Afghanistan, a lecture from Dr. Lauryn Oates.

Dr. Lauryn Oates is the Executive Director of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan. She is also an Adjunct Professor at UBC, and teaches graduate students in the School of Humanitarian Studies at Royal Roads University. She has also worked as a consultant with UNICEF, the World University Service of Canada, Global Rights, the Nike Foundation, Action Aid, USAID, and Womankind Worldwide, among others.

In her talk, Dr. Oates will discuss the history of female education in Afghanistan and her work to achieve social change through the development of education and gender equality in war-affected countries.
