The Roger Watts Debate

March 25 at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Governments worldwide are increasingly turning to unmanned technologies to support defence operations, disaster response, border monitoring and infrastructure management.

On Wednesday, March 25, the Okanagan community is invited to attend the annual Roger Watts Debate at the Mary Irwin Theatre in downtown Kelowna.

Top UBCO student debaters will debate the motion Be it resolved that Canada create a national drone program for civilian and military use before a panel of community judges who will decide the winners.

Prizes of $1,000 for the first-place finishers and $500 for the runners up will be awarded. Student participants will also have the opportunity to compete for the People’s Choice Award, with $500 up for grabs.

This is a free community event, but registration is required.

The Roger Watts Debate provides a public forum for students to debate current events and complex topics while sharpening their critical thinking, public speaking and persuasive communication skills.

The event is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors: the Central Okanagan Foundation and Sandra Watts.
