Cancelled: Virtual Realities: States and Territory in the Digital Era

May 5, 2023 at 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

This event has been cancelled

The community is invited to a conversation with Louise Amoore, Professor of Political Geography at Durham University.

Dr. Amoore will address how the logics of deep learning begin to coalesce with, and transform, the sovereign techniques of the state.

Focusing on the themes of rules, features, attributes and clusters, Dr. Amoore will propose that contemporary machine learning is fundamentally reconfiguring twentieth century statistical sovereign logics.

This event will be moderated by Wendy H. Wong, Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan.

This talk is generously supported by SSHRC, the Canada Research Chair program, UBC VPRI, and UBCO’s Department of Economics, Philosophy, and Political Science.

All are welcome to attend this free event, but due to seating limitations, pre-registration is required.
