CCDPM Legacy Lecture: Inclusion, Exclusion and Porn: Centring (inter)subjective experiences in health-science scholarship

The Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management (CCDPM) is pleased to announce our next Legacy Lecture Series presentation at UBC Okanagan. Dr. Justin Haegele presents Inclusion, Exclusion, and Porn: Centring (inter)subjective experiences in health-science scholarship.

Dr. Haegele will focus on inclusion and exclusion as (inter)subjective experiences, and the implications these conceptualizations have for health research. He will explore concepts related to epistemic injustice and inclusion porn, and discuss challenges in the field in which the concept of inclusion is used, sometimes without thinking about the needs, wants, and desires of people with disabilities.

Bio

Justin A. Haegele, PhD, is the Colgate Darden Endowed Professor and the Director of the Center for Movement, Health, & Disability in the Department of Human Movement Studies & Special Education at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA, USA). Contextualized within the interdisciplinary field of adapted physical activity, his primary research interests center on exploring how disabled individuals experience physical activity participation, including within school-based physical education contexts. Since joining Old Dominion University in 2015, Dr. Haegele has amassed over 275 peer-reviewed research publications, as well as several edited or authored texts. He currently serves as the director of Project CAPER and the co-director of the MAMC, two adapted physical activity training collaboratives that are funded through the US Department of Education and focused on training doctoral scholars in the field. He is the immediate past president of the North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity and the editor-in-chief for the peer-reviewed publication Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly (2023-2026).
