Alumni Office Hours with Eddie Jang – Underwriter at Merchant Growth

August 19, 2020 at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Career Services is excited to bring you a virtual mentorship and networking opportunity to connect with UBC Alumni, Eddie Jang. In this Office Hour, Eddie will speak to the power of your unconventional story, and how writing your own story will guide you in your early career.

Eddie Jang is a former commercial banker and finance professional, who strongly believes in GRIT. He holds a business diploma in general management from Capilano University and a bachelor of commerce with a major in finance from the University of British Columbia. Eddie is currently an underwriter at Merchant Growth, a financial technology (Fintech) company in Vancouver, BC.

Eddie’s story began when he moved to Canada from Chile at the age of 16 without speaking English at all. It takes vision and strategy to change one’s story, but most importantly he believes that “it takes the help of great mentors, professors, and educational advocates to change one’s story. These many individuals helped me thrive and become the person who I am today”. He is currently a member of the Capilano University board of directors to give back to the community. He is an inspirational storyteller and is trained in the art of public speaking. He is involved in charities such as “Give a Damn Vancouver”, which helps local charities across Vancouver to support local causes. Eddie practices soccer and kickboxing in his spare time.
