Creative Commons and Open Licensing in Practice

October 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

free

This session will provide an introduction to open licensing, focusing primarily on Creative Commons and how creators can assign licenses to their works and use the licensed works of others.

Open licensing was developed in response to the restrictive nature of copyright. Its growth demonstrates the desire of many creators, especially in academia, to make their work accessible and reusable by others.

Topics covered in this session include:

  • the history and development of open licenses
  • the different Creative Commons licenses and how they work
  • how to assign licenses to your work
  • how to find and reuse openly licensed content in your work

Attendees are not expected to have significant experience with open licensing prior to attending.
