School of Engineering

12 noon–2 pm: Central Courtyard

Join students and staff from the School of Engineering for a fun, family-focused STEM activity using recycled/sustainable materials. Challenge yourself and your “team” to utilize design principles and engineer a solution to a real-world problem. This activity can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes — it’s up to you and your creativity! While you’re at our station, chat with our students about their recent Design Team successes, from concrete toboggans and motorsport vehicles to solar-powered benches.

Geering Up Presents: Nature, art, and science

Inspire a love of STEAM as we explore nature, art, and science through the creation of chromatography butterflies. Perfect for all kids big and small! Look for the Geering Up booth to come discover and create with us!

Ready to test your management smarts? Here’s your chance to show off your business savvy! Compete head-to-head in a thrilling trivia showdown to challenge your knowledge of management principles, UBCO history, and fun facts. Afterward, refresh yourself with a drink from our iced coffee bar.

Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science: Experiment with us!

12 noon–2 pm: Central Courtyard

Join the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science for exciting activities and a chance to reconnect! Dr. Chase Manson and his team members from the student-led UBCO Plant Breeding Initiative will showcase experiments that involve assessing pepper sugar content, performing cross-pollination to generate hybrid offspring and create new varieties, distributing mystery hybrid pepper seeds in small packets, and prize giveaways of UBC merchandise. 

Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies

2–3 pm: FINA Gallery, Creative and Critical Studies Building

Annual Faculty and Staff Exhibition

Our inaugural exhibition and speaker series features the artwork of select Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies faculty and staff. The 2024 exhibition will showcase the works of instructors Briar Craig, Aleksandra Dulic, Patrick Lundeen, Crystal Przybille (BFA’97, MFA’20), and Darian Stahl, as well as staff and alumni Joanne Gervais (BFA’06, MFA’10), Shauna Oddleifson (BFA’98), and Lacia Vogel (BFA’12).

Gervais and Oddleifson will offer a talk about their work at the opening reception. Light refreshments and wine will be served.

Okanagan School of Education: Explore Indigenous Flora through Augmented Reality

2–3 pm: Central Courtyard (meet at the registration tent)

In this land-based learning activity, Augmented Reality software will guide you in locating, identifying, and learning the Syilx names of Indigenous flora, to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of these plants to Syilx culture. Participate in teams, connect with nature, and learn more about Indigenous Okanagan species found on the UBC Okanagan campus!
