IBPOC Community Care Beading Space
December 5 at 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Led by Keyara Brody, a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh beader and UBC graduate student, this is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the beautiful and diverse beading traditions that exist within our collective community as well as connect and strengthen our community with other IBPOC faculty, staff, and post-doctoral fellows.
This is meant to be a space to ground ourselves in culture, community and crafting. It is a time to connect with our colleagues, find reprieve and express ourselves through creativity.
We welcome you to bring beadwork from your culture to share and craft with the group. If you’re new to beading, don’t worry, we will have an instruction portion to walk you through how to do a brick stitch. Beading materials and refreshments will be provided. However, we welcome you to bring your own beading materials as well.
This event is open to faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, Person of Colour and/or racialized community members to build their support networks.
