Join us for a series of artist talks, panel conversations and keynote presentations throughout the months of May and June.

The Indigenous Art Intensive features a series of world-renowned speakers, including a panel discussion, facilitated by Stacey Koosel, with participating artists Mariel Belanger, Csetkwe Fortier and Manuel Axel Strain.

This discussion explores themes of land-based art, painting, sculpture, performance, intergenerational and community-engaged practice.

Drop by the University Theatre on Wednesday, June 8 between 2-3:30 pm.

About the Artists

Mariel Belanger is a Syilx interdisciplinary performance artist who has used ethnographic historical recordings to map the archives for family specific song and story.

Csetkwe Fortier is a multi-gifted artist with her roots in the Syilx (Okanagan) and Secwepmec (Shuswap) Nations. Her performances include those of a singer/ song carrier, spoken word poet and Indigenous female drum collective.

Manuel Axel Strain is from the lands and waters of the Musqueam, Simpcw and Syilx peoples. Their artworks often envelop subjects in relation with ancestral and community ties.
