Introduction to Community-Based Participatory Research

The International Qualitative Research Network is pleased to host a series of qualitative research methods workshops, June 12-13, 2023. These workshops are open to all students, faculty and community research partners.

Dr. Maria Myan will facilitate the June 12 workshop Introduction to Community-Based Participatory Research

The objective of this workshop is to outline the conceptual foundations for undertaking community-based participatory research in response to community priorities and issues. We will go through the roots of community-based participatory research, partnership development and maintenance, and ethics. Learners will leave the workshop with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of community-based participatory research. All faculty, students and researchers are welcome.

About Maria Mayan

Maria Mayan is a Professor and Associate Dean Research and an Associate Director of the Community-University Partnership in the School of Public Health.

As a qualitative methodologist, she has studied, written about, and conducted qualitative research since the early 1990s. She spent over ten years at the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology learning and teaching qualitative inquiry locally and internationally. She has been invited to teach qualitative inquiry by government, not-for-profits, the private sector, and the academic community worldwide. Her qualitative expertise has culminated into a book, Essentials of Qualitative Inquiry; a second edition is forthcoming.
