Keeping Wellbeing in the Teaching Loop

May 7 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In May 2023, a team of UBC researchers ran the Teaching Practices Survey to better understand how faculty across both campuses structure learning for students and perceive the teaching climate at our institution.

A total of 855 complete responses were collected, resulting in a response rate of 17.9%. Campus reports and recommendations are available on the Teaching Practices Survey website.

This presentation will highlight results that shed light on survey respondents’ perceptions of the intersection of student wellbeing and teaching practices. Presenters will discuss findings in light of research on specific teaching practices that have shown to positively impact student mental health and wellbeing.

Session participants will be invited to share how their experiences align with the survey findings and to explore ways in which they can support student wellbeing as well as their own.

Presenters:

  • Barbara Komlos: Educational Consultant, Centre for Teaching & Learning, UBC Okanagan
  • Adriana Briseño-Garzón: Senior Manager, Research & Evaluation, CTLT, UBC
  • Gülnur Birol: Director, Skylight: Science Centre for Learning & Teaching, UBC
