Managing Difficult Conversations for TAs

September 11 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Supporting students as a Teaching Assistant involves more than marking assignments or leading labs. TAs are often the first point of contact when challenges arise. This interactive workshop prepares TAs to navigate difficult conversations commonly encountered in teaching and learning environments, including grade disputes, classroom disruptions, unclear supervisor expectations, and situations where students share personal or distressing information.

In collaboration with the Theatre Department, TAs will explore scenarios and actions that will be brought to life through live performance. Through case studies, role-play, and guided reflection, participants will practice communication strategies that promote clarity, compassion, and healthy boundaries. The session focuses on practical approaches grounded in real teaching contexts, helping TAs feel more confident, prepared, and supported in their roles.
