Okanagan Reads Author Talk: Dr. Bill Cohen

freeAs part of the Okanagan Reads program, UBC Okanagan Library and Okanagan Regional Library have partnered to offer a presentation by Dr. Bill Cohen, co-author of the first chapter of the collection White Space titled “Emerging from the Whiteout: Colonization, Assimilation, Historical Erasure, and Syilx Okanagan Resistance and Transforming Praxis in the Okanagan Valley.”

Dr. Bill Cohen is from the Okanagan Nation with extensive kinship ties throughout BC and Washington. He specializes in the areas of Indigenous knowledge, research, education, and transforming pedagogy. Bill Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Okanagan School of Education at UBC Okanagan.
White Space is a collection of essays edited by UBC Okanagan faculty members Dr. Daniel Keyes and Dr.Luis L. M. Aguiar, which aims to analyze the dominance of whiteness in the Okanagan Valley to expose how this racial notion continues to sustain forms of settler privilege.
White Space is one of the three books selected by the Okanagan Reads program, which is funded through the Sharron Simpson Family Community Engagement Endowment Fund.
