Orange Shirt Day Hummingbird Flag Installation

September 29, 2023 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies is pleased to invite people to participate in installing a series of hummingbird flags on campus for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30. The hummingbird flags represent the children (little spirits) who never came home and remember the unmarked graves at residential schools across Canada, as we continue to demand justice for Indigenous communities.

Linocut workshop participants will be creating the flags on September 13th and 20th, adding to the flags created last year to increase the circle of flags to be installed in the courtyard on the UBCO campus. View images and read more about the 2022 project.

All students, staff and faculty are welcome. There is no need to register. For more information, please email fccs.ubco@ubc.ca.

These workshops and installation will be facilitated by Tania Willard, Assistant Professor in Visual Arts, and the Indigenous Art Intensive Coordinator.
