Page Flip: Press Play Lightbox Exhibition
February 15 at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join Dr. Karis Shearer and the AMP Lab for the opening of Yashvardhan Joshi’s sound-based Press Play lightbox exhibition, Page Flip.
Based on the sound of the ‘page-flipping,’ Yash’s exhibition reflects on his experience of listening to Daphne Marlatt’s recording from the SoundBox collection (UBCO) and how we can produce deep listening experiences.
Featured within the Soundbox collection, Marlatt (1942-) grew up in Malaysia before immigrating to Canada. While studying at UBC in the 1960s, she was one of the editors of the TISH newsletter and has written over twenty collections of poetry. Marlatt received the Order of Canada in 2006.
Yash is the first Press Play undergrad researcher to produce a lightbox exhibition, supported by undergrad mentor Matthew Kenney; Karis Shearer, Director of the AMP Lab; and SpokenWeb GRA Tara Nicholson. Fellow undergrad students Wanling He, Asana Hughes and Sabrina Warwick will also be producing exhibitions in the coming months.
Supported by the UBCO Provost’s Excellence Fund, “Press Play! Research-Creation, Arts Entrepreneurship and the Digital Archive” is a paid internship that enables undergrads to create public-facing projects that mobilize materials from digitized cultural heritage archives in critical and creative ways.
Light refreshments including vegan options will be provided.
This event is free and open to all, registration is not required.
