Setting Boundries
March 13 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
In this engaging workshop, we will explore the common struggles that arise after setting boundaries, such as guilt and pushback, and the impact these challenges can have on our relationships. We will also look at strategies to effectively manage these reactions.
Setting boundaries is an essential part of maintaining healthy relationships and prioritizing our wellbeing. Whether you have formally worked on setting boundaries, or you are looking to set personal and professional boundaries in the future, this workshop is designed to help you navigate the challenges inherent in boundary setting, and provide you with the tools to effectively manage the aftermath.
Audience: All faculty and staff at UBC Vancouver and Okanagan are welcome to attend.
Location: Zoom. (Once you’ve registered, you will be directed to the course Canvas page where you can find the Zoom link.)
Key Learning Objectives:
- Understand the dynamics of guilt and pushback: Gain insight into why guilt and pushback often occur after setting boundaries and learn how to navigate these emotions and reactions in a healthy and constructive way.
- Identify what is within your control: Discover the aspects of boundary setting that are within your control and learn how to focus on managing your own reactions and responses, rather than trying to control the reactions of others.
- Letting go of what is beyond your control: Explore the importance of accepting that you cannot control how others react to your boundaries and learn techniques to let go of the need for approval or validation from others.
- Establishing healthy support systems: Learn how to build and maintain a support system that understands and respects your boundaries and discover strategies to communicate your needs effectively to those around you.
