Speaker Series: A Multidimensional Social Inquiry into ‘the Loneliness Problem’

The Department of History and Sociology invites the public to attend a Multidimensional Social Inquiry into ‘the Loneliness Problem’ a lecture from Dr. Tara Milbrandt and Dr. Ondine Park.

Dr. Tara Milbrandt is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Alberta, Augustana campus. Dr. Ondine Park is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in UBCO’s Department of History and Sociology. Together, Dr. Milbrandt and Dr. Park have received SSHRC’s ‘Emerging Asocial Society’ Knowledge Synthesis Grant for their research on loneliness as a complex and multifaceted social issue of the times.

In this talk, they will review recent research on loneliness, highlighting ways it intersects with technology, built environment, and neo-liberal individualism, and discuss existing approaches to addressing loneliness and social isolation in Canada.
