The Importance of Knowing the Truth Before We Can Have Reconciliation

(Re)Introducing graduate students to the history of colonialism in Canada, its historical and contemporary impacts on Indigenous society, and understanding how this connects with the work we do and the support institutions provide to Indigenous students.

Indigenous Programs and Services staff members Naim and Dan will also share their personal connections of how colonialism has directly affected their lives.

Learning outcomes for students, include:

  • Engage with the history of colonialism in Canada, Indian Residential Schools, Indigenous experience, and reconciliation.
  • Reflect on the historical and contemporary impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples’.
  • Question “Why are we doing this work?”.
  • How does this connect with and support your work?

This workshop is hosted by Indigenous Programs and Services and is part of the Social and Cultural Awareness Credential.
