Welcome Week: Sciversify UBCO Conference

September 21, 2021 at 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Join us for Professor Deborah McGregor’s keynote speech on Indigenous Knowledge, Research, and Sustainability. Professor Deborah McGregor (Anishinabek) is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Justice at York University. Professor McGregor’s research has focused on Indigenous knowledge and legal systems and their various applications in diverse contexts including water and environmental governance, environmental and climate justice, health and environment and sustainability.

Recognizing an ongoing lack of diversity within the field of science, Sciversify UBCO is a new, student-led initiative aimed at sparking a discussion around equity and diversity in STEM. This virtual conference consists of speaking engagements for scientists from underrepresented communities to showcase their work and discuss their lived experiences. This conference, delivered via Zoom in the evenings, will consist of a panel discussion, a keynote speaker, and an equity training workshop hosted by the UBCO Equity and Inclusion Office.
