Artificial Intelligence and Unconditional Love

November 28 at 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Department of History and Sociology in collaboration with the Department of Community, Culture and Global Studies presents the second instalment of its speaker series featuring Dr. Vince Miller from the University of Kent in the UK.

In his talk, Dr. Miller explores the evolving integration of humans and technology by investigating the relationships between mood apps (mood trackers and therapy chatbots) and their users.

Drawing from his research, he discusses how some people develop meaningful companion relationships with various forms of artificial intelligence which can provide substantial therapeutic benefit for them in terms of mental health.

This opens up several important questions, not only about the evolving relationships between humans and technology (for example, as a companion as opposed to a tool), but also the possible role that relationships with companion technologies may provide in mental health wellbeing, the potential benefits and dangers of AI relationships, and how much we need to be concerned about these evolving intimacies.

No registration is required and everyone is welcome to attend.
