Film Screening—The Queen of Katwe
February 8, 2024, 6–8 pm in ASC 460

Join the College of Graduate Studies for a free screening of the 2016 film The Queen of Katwe. The movie is inspired by the true story of a Ugandan girl whose life changes forever when she discovers she has an amazing talent for chess.

The Future of Black Histories: Uplifting Black Youth Voices

Join Kelowna Museums for a panel discussion between Tasia McGrew, Dr. Girvan, and Dr. Asiyanbi. Listen to diverse perspectives on topics such as Black erasure in the Okanagan and the role of IBPOC youth in climate justice.

Black History Month: Celebrating Black Creatives
February 15, 2024, 12:30–3:30 pm at the Nechako Gathering Room (1255 International Mews)

This event is focused on celebrating and engaging with Black performers from UBC Okanagan and across BC. The keynote speaker is poet Elliot Slinn, with music by Malusi Mabaleka, Lady Dia & Trophy, and student performers.

BHM Cooking Class with African Caribbean Student Club
