History and Sociology Speaker Series
March 6 at 6:00 am - 8:00 pm

Michelle Francis-Denny’s lived personal and professional experience brings passionate perspectives to all spaces she is invited to. The Department of History and Sociology is pleased to welcome Ms. Francis-Denny to our campus to discuss her role in the closure and clean-up of the Boat Harbour Treatment Facility—a toxic waste site that had plagued her community for more than half a century.
Michelle Francis-Denny holds an MBA in Indigenous Business Leadership from Simon Fraser University and recently graduated from Harvard’s Tribal Leadership Program. She prides herself on taking unique approaches to building awareness of Indigenous worldviews and developing meaningful relationships.
Her career focus is guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to action #92—Economic Reconciliation and Environmental responsibilities – and she strives to find opportunities for economic development that directly benefits Indigenous people in Canada.
From 2016–2021, Ms. Francis-Denny served as the Community Liaison for the Boat Harbour Remediation Project. In this role, she was on the frontlines of negotiations alongside her community of Pictou Landing First Nation the Provincial Government of Nova Scotia, and the pulp and paper industry.
No registration is required. Everyone is welcome to attend.
