POSTPONED – Inclusive Teaching: Reflecting on Your Teaching Practice

January 24 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please note, this event has been postponed due to not meeting the minimum required number of registrants needed for the collaborative learning activities. If you are interested in a future offering, please take a moment to fill a quick interest survey.

Inclusive teaching creates “a learning environment where all students feel that their differences are valued and respected, have equitable access to learning and other educational opportunities, and are supported to learn to their full potential” (Inclusive Teaching @ UBC). How does one foster an inclusive learning environment? What are some strategies that promote more equitable learning for students?

In this session, you will have an opportunity to deepen your awareness of your own teaching practice as it relates to inclusive teaching. You will be introduced to a variety of inclusive teaching strategies, and you will have the opportunity to consider which strategies might be helpful to adapt into your own context.

By the end of this session, you will:

  • Reflect on your current teaching practice
  • Appreciate the terrain of inclusive teaching strategies
  • Commit to implementing a new inclusive teaching strategy

This is a practical, discussion-based workshop that involves active engagement from participants: you will share what you do in the classroom, as well as learn from colleagues about their approaches.

In this workshop participants may move around the room during the learning activities. If you would rather limit your physical movement or require any other accessibility accommodations to fully participate in this event, please let your facilitators know (by emailing electra.eleftheriadou@ubc.ca) and they will make adjustments to meet your needs. We appreciate your contribution in helping us make this event accessible to everyone.

Facilitators:

  • Electra Eleftheriadou, Ph.D., Educational Consultant for Inclusion
  • Barbara Komlos, Ed.D. Educational Consultant, Faculty and Curriculum Development

Please note that there is a similar session taking place in-person at CTLT the same day: https://events.ctlt.ubc.ca/events/inclusive-teaching-reflecting-on-your-teaching-practice-january-24-2024/
