Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada: Mapping Residential Schools

September 26, 2023 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, this event will be an opportunity to locate various Indian Residential Schools (IRS) on an Indigenous territorial map of what we call Canada, as well as provide educational information about profiled Residential Schools. We hope that the Indigenous Atlas will help you identify where IRS were located and provide you with some history about what happened to Indigenous children in Canada.

The 25-by-35-foot, Indigenous territorial map of what we call Canada will be on display in the Ballroom (UNC 200) on September 26 from 10 am to 1 pm for UBC Okanagan students, faculty, and staff to view in order to further their learning about the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples and the history of IRS in what we call Canada.

All are welcome and no registration is required.
