Queer Zine Workshop
April 16 at 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Free
Calling artists, writers, and creatives!
Learn more about how to make zines, the legendary underground and DIY art form integral to pre-internet queer and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities since the ‘70s. Zines are self-published, small-circulation “magazines” that can cover a wide range of topics, including personal narratives, art, poetry, politics, and more.
This free workshop will include a brief history of zines, considerations for zine-making in regard to copyright, intellectual property, and Indigenous knowledges, as well as time for people to create their own zines. Supplies will be provided during the workshop. Participants are welcome to bring any materials of their own. (Magazines? Photos? Newspapers? Yes!)
Join us on April 16 from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Laurel Packinghouse in downtown Kelowna (1304 Ellis Street).
UBC Okanagan Library is offering this workshop in partnership with Kelowna Museums. If you have questions about this event, please reach out to Donna Langille, Open Education Librarian.
Zine creators are invited to showcase, sell, or trade their zines at the Queer Zine Fair on June 5. Learn more about the Queer Zine Fair and sign up to be a exhibitor.
