Southeast Asian kids games
March 28 at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Get ready to relive the fun and excitement of your childhood at SEAC’s Cultural Sports Day! Join us for a day of friendly competition, laughter, and nostalgia as we bring traditional Southeast Asian games to life here on campus. Jump into the action of Galah Panjang from Malaysia, Pecah Piring from Indonesia, and Tumbang Preso from the Philippines. Whether you played these games growing up or are trying them for the first time, come connect, compete, and have fun
Galah Panjang is a game of tag played on a narrow and long field. This game is played with 2 teams of no less than 4 people. The attacking team’s goal is to cross the field without getting tagged by the defending team and then return to the starting line to win, while the defending team’s players (at each horizontal line) attempt to tag the attackers to eliminate them. If any player of the attacker’s team gets tagged or steps out of the field, they are out (eliminated). Points are awarded for each player who successfully returns to the starting line. After one round of game, the attackers team becomes the defending team and vice versa.
Tumbang Preso includes two roles in the game including a shoe thrower and can guard. The thrower throws their ‘shoe’ in an attempt to hit the can. If they miss, they have to take the ‘shoes’ back without getting tagged by the can guard. The can guard attempts to tag the thrower who touches the ‘shoes’ and bring back the can into the circle when it gets knocked out. If a thrower is tagged, they become the guard.
Pecah Piring is set up by placing stacked cones in the middle of the game area. The people will be separated into two groups: the ball thrower and the stacker. The stacker will first throw a dodgeball in an attempt to knock down the stacked cones in the middle of the game arena. When the stack of cones are knocked out, the stacker has to run in order not to get hit by the dodgeball. The stacker has to stack the cones back together before all of the teammates are eliminated. The ball thrower attempts to hit the stacker before they successfully stacked all the cones.
