Syllabus Design

November 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Modality: Multi-access
Location: SCI 331 & Zoom

Presenters: Firas Moosvi, Barbara Komlos, and Jeannine Kuemmerle.

Many faculty members grapple with the tension between syllabi that conform to departmental and university guidelines and ones that are creative, student-centred, and friendly.  How might the syllabus assist your learners in mapping their progress through the course? This 90-minute workshop will introduce the building blocks of the course syllabus and explore how to adhere to university guidelines while also being student-centred. We encourage you to bring a (draft) syllabus to the workshop to get feedback!
Topics will include:

  • Using the Syllabus Generator in Curriculum MAP to create syllabi that conform with departmental and university guidelines.
  • Creating student-centred syllabi, including “unsyllabi” and “visual syllabi”.
  • Aligning syllabi with Universal Design for Learning.
  • Applying strategies to involve students in co-creating aspects of a syllabus and engaging with it.

All UBCO instructors and staff are invited to register. If you have any questions, email us at ctl.ubco@ubc.ca
