UBCO–DRAO Joint Seminar Series

October 28 at 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science presents the “Gas rich galaxies and cosmology: Paving the way to the Squared Kilometre Array (SKA)” seminar, as part of the UBCO–DRAO Joint Seminar Series.

About the talk
The atomic gas content of nearby galaxies provides important insight into how they form and evolve within the standard cosmology, which describes the structure and evolution of the universe itself.

Dr. Kristine Spekkens will discuss her works on building statistical samples of atomic gas disks as cosmological probes across cosmic time, including resolving structural questions of disk galaxies, using the international mega-telescope SKA.

This is a free event open to the UBC community; no pre-registration is required.

Speaker
Dr. Kristine Spekkens
Professor of Astronomy, Queen’s University;
Canadian Science Director, Squared Kilometre Array (SKA)
