Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science Speaker Series

February 12 at 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Head shot o professor Jacob Levy

Join Professor Jacob Levy as he discusses  the topic, Culture Wars as a Teachable Moment for Free Speech and Academic Freedom.

Prof. Levy will outline the ways in which recent conflicts across North American campuses, including the Israel-Palestinian conflict, have revealed inconsistencies in the ways universities have protected free speech and academic freedom. He will offer an overview of the relationship between free speech and academic freedom and how contemporary culture wars offer a chance to recommit ourselves to these principles.

Prof. Levy will also discuss some questions with UBCO’s Geoffrey Sigalet (Assistant Professor of Political Science) and then take questions from the audience.

Prof. Levy is the Chair of McGill’s Department of Political Science and the Tomlinson Professor of Political Theory.
