Drag Performance and Panel Discussion

May 17 at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$40.00

Join us for a drag performance and academic panel held off-campus at the historic Laurel Packinghouse in the entertainment district in Kelowna.

Highlighting the importance of drag as an underexplored site of decolonial and anti-racist resistance and creativity in late capitalism, the event will showcase the contributions of queer of colour performers who are mobilizing the aesthetic dimensions of drag to critique white settler racism and colonialism.

An academic panel will trace the cultural politics and history of drag in relation to white settler colonialism and racism, featuring John Cho (UBC Okanagan), Shaka McGlotten (Purchase College-SUNY), Nishant Upadhyay (University of Colorado, Boulder), and drag artist Shay Dior in the panel discussion.

For more information about the event, read Assistant Professor John Cho’s interview in the CASCA Culture newsletter.

For tickets to the performance, email casca.2024@ubc.ca.
